One of our local treasures, Botanical artist, Susannah Blaxill

It's time to share some of the treasures of the Southern Highlands.

I would like to introduce you to an amazing botanical artist, Susannah Blaxill.

I have known my friend Susannah Blaxill for many years now and I have viewed her beautiful work both in private homes of those lucky enough to have one of her paintings and at local art shows. I was the creative director for an art show a few years ago in Bowral in charge of the hanging and the display of the interior of the hall. I pleaded with Susannah to put some of her work in our show. My goodness, when she arrived with her work, (two large charcoal drawings of Eggplants) everyone was speechless. The fine detail in her work is exquisite and quite overwhelming, as you will see from these images below.

Susannah is very well known for her work around the world and has exhibited in the UK, Europe, Tokyo, Africa and the U.S. for many years. I drive pass Susannah most days in my car as we both drop our daughters off to the same school. As Susannah heads up the hill to her home and I drive back to Bowral, I always picture her in my mind surrounded by her paint and tiny brushes and wonder what her day ahead might be like as she paints and draws in her studio.
What a wonderful, creative and peaceful life she must have as she captures the beauty of the world we live in.
