What a way to start off the year, the first issue of Styling is running late! Hmmmm
It will be on-line tomorrow… and thank goodness. It has been such a busy couple of weeks (actually months) for me and as life is life… well, something had to give.
Today is the second Tuesday of the month and it's time for the monthly BIO blogging party.
Each month, I join a group of fabulous women from around the world, and we discuss and share a common theme.
A couple of weeks ago, I was asked by our host, Marsha Harris of Splenderosa to create the theme for this month's party.
So, after much consideration, my theme is... What would our world be like if we were to barter for our existence? What would your skills be? (Also, with no electricity)
Bartering is a system of exchange by which goods and services are directly exchanged.
How would you survive day to day?
What would you do and what skills would you use?
Andrew (my husband) and I often talk about keeping traditional skills alive. To be honest, I'm sure I would rely on Andrew for everything straight away, because he still uses traditional skills and tools most days with his cabinet making and restoration. He loves nothing more than chopping wood, building with timber, leatherwork, gardening and growing vegetables. Although, looking at our vegetable patch right now, I don't think our food would last longer than a week. I would have to be creative to find a way to survive on just rhubarb and chives.
There is a trend today spreading across the world for everyone to return to a more natural way of living, I would love it, but, I would so miss my computer and of course all of you!
Seriously, what would you trade? Would you sew, I would! I always loved sewing when I was younger. I think I would like to make hats as well. But, I would need stronger glasses now to thread the needle.
Would you cook and trade your food, jams, produce, eggs?
I don't think I would survive very long by trading my magazine…it just wouldn't be a part of my world anymore without the internet!
Would it change your life? I know it would change mine.
Would you teach, would you write, would you exchange your professional skills for food? and what would they be worth? It really makes you think, doesn't it?.
Would you hate it, would you love it?
I think I would like to start mixing natural remedies. Growing and finding wonderful herbs and flowers and creating essences for health and beautiful perfumes. I think it would such a beautiful way to spend the day. Plus, it would be certainly worth trading.
I have been asked by many clients and friends over the years if I could create their daughter's weddings. So, I'm sure that I would do that as well, so, I would need to grow lots and lots of different flowers.
Yes, I would be a 'flower lady'… I'm sure you all know how much I love flowers.
I do hope everyone in the group enjoyed this theme, I can't wait to see what all the other girls would be trading, it should be fun. See here.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
And, don't forget to come back tomorrow, the new issue of Styling magazine will be online.
As I wrote on my Facebook page yesterday, "I think 2015 is the year when…it will happen when it is meant to happen! Gone are the days of the stressful deadlines. YaaaY!
